Between June 3 and July 11, 2022, a Training Action for Preschool, 1st and 2nd cycle teachers took place at EB 2.3 Santo António, called "In the seagrass meadows all the horses are seahorses", accredited by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education, which was attended by 20 trainees. The training action included theoretical sessions where basic theoretical and practical concepts were addressed, in order to understand the ecosystem services provided by seagrass meadows and the biology and ecology of seahorses. A field trip to Ria Formosa was carried out, including a visit to the seahorses' sanctuary and to the Ramalhete Aquaculture Station where seahorses are bred. The teachers designed proposals of educational activities to be carried out with the students on the theme, which were included in a sharing forum so that all trainees can adapt them in their schools.
The CCMaR team will organize on 18 July 2022 (program below) a café-dialogue on the future of the Ria Formosa for local and regional administration representatives. The event includes a guided tour in the Ria, so there will be a total limit of 20 participants. Registration required at: https://www.ccmar.ualg.pt/cafe_dialogo_ria_formosa .As part of the project for the articulation of Natural Sciences between 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, developed in the Padre João coelho Cabanita school grouping in Loulé, a series of awareness-raising lectures on the theme of the conservation of the seahorses of the Ria Formosa and their habitats took place in Loulé at the main school and in Salir, at the E,B 2,3 Sebastião Teixeira on 13, 14, 23 and 28 June 2022. These lectures aim at spreading the Seaghorse project and raising the awareness of the students involved in this project for the importance and the problematic of conservation of potentially endangered marine species and their habitats. The lectures were streamlined by the Seaghorse project team. It should also be mentioned that the project of articulation between 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles culminated with the production of a video on the various activities developedThe SeagHorse team and some volunteers transplanted seagrasses of the Cymodocea nodosa species from the Ria water reception tank of the pilot fish farm station of Olhão (EPPO), which acts as a hatchery, to the Faro seahorse sanctuary.
